Can you imagine if everyone treated their own happiness with the same degree of commitment and intensity that some people take religion? I often think about how better off we'd be if we took pleasure seriously, if we actually thought of having fun as a moral imperative rather than something that is just nice to do from time to time. Perhaps if we did we'd actually be successful at feeling good and we could go to sleep content with our lives.
