It's a truly magical food that grows on lakes and falls freely into your boat when it's ripe. Ojibwe people call it Manoomin, and it's a huge part of their culture and history in this area. What you've bought at the store labeled wild rice is almost certainly farmed, not really wild. On a good day a team of two can harvest about a hundred pounds of finished rice. It's a lot of work though to be in the right place at the right time with everything you need to recieve this bounty. That's my focus this week 😊
