It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything. When you've been through hell, looked the devil in the eye, and whispered in his ear that he'll never win, you change. Life brings on new meaning, and new opportunities. I won't share Titania's personal story - that's her business, but it started similar to mine, with tragic loss. I see in her a fighting spirit that broke in me, and put me in a place with the taste of gun oil permeating my thoughts, as I was half a heartbeat away from squeezing the trigger and joining the big sleep. Instead, I had an awakening. Maybe it was God, maybe it was the perfect combination of firing neurons, but someone spoke to me at the end of that shotgun barrel and I said "Not today. Not any day." That night, I crossed a veil in our structure of humanity. I freed myself of petty burdens. I learned what it truly means to live, and for over ten years now, I have been more free than ever before. While I pray that my friend's path does not take her to the same brink, if it does, she knows that I have been there, staring death in the face, and walking away. She knows that if she hits rock bottom, that I am here on the other side, waiting to help her through in any way possible. We all deal with tragedy in different ways, but if you pay attention to the subtle signs, you will find the survivors, and they will understand better than anyone else.
