blog post: Relaxation is a skill??
Cats are masters at relaxing. They go somewhere and then they stop doing. They nap or just gaze off into space. They're made of perfectly comfortable liquid, like they are their own hot tub. And this is most of what they do.
I just realized that relaxing is a skill, and one I don't have. I tried relaxing this morning, tried to un-try, to stop the processes that spin up given a little space, to become comfortable resting. And instead I wrote this in my head. I relaxed a little, though. It's very unnatural for me.
My mind wants to think and do. My body wants to move, restless. Busy mind. Maybe this is what the meditators are going on about?
I'm not a good sleeper. I'll often lay for an hour or two, my thoughts and heart racing, from childhood til now. I've got a glimmer of hope that this relaxation thing might help with my energy levels and health in an even deeper way, if I can master it.
