🕑 Added 2023-05-18 17:10:09 +0000 UTC Throwback Thursday: Today is something a little different. On May 18, 1980, Mount Saint Helens in Washington state, USA erupted at 8:32 AM. Because of the seismic earthquake that was strong enough to break the 400+ foot bulge in the side of the mountain, it collapsed, revealing an open side of the mountain’s built up magma chamber. Because of this one of the greatest explosions, unleashed outward instead of upward, destroying everything in its path. My parents were living with my brother (who had just turned one) about 95 miles north of Mount Saint Helens at the time. So I was not born yet, this throwback isn’t about me and the industry, but about celebrating life and nature and today’s historical 43 years anniversary of the eruption. It’s crazy how some of the landscape (no joke) has still not changed when visiting Mount Saint Helens. It was known as the Mount Fuji of the Pacific Northwest because it looked exactly like the coned Mt Fuji and now, total transformation. It lost over 4000 feet off its top. I find natural catastrophic disasters, fascinating, as well as the entire history of Mount Saint Helens and its activity which is still prevalent today. Hopefully, we learn from history and not repeat itself. This exact famous photo is up in my late grandpa’s bar as a reminder. (It was shot from the south side of the mountain facing north) Don’t underestimate the fury of Mother Nature & her power! Hope you guys enjoyed this one!
